And comparing this case to a lottery or buying shares is a bad example, as this screwup was made purely by Anet, and they can still fix it.
They can simply replace this "buff" with another reward, like party items.
Players who already got their title can simply sell those - they cannot sell the buff to make up for their loss.

Personally, i am getting the feeling they want to drive players away from GW1 just so they can shut down the servers as soon as GW2 is out.
I know this is stupid, this is simply the impression i get from all their idiotic decisions.

EDIT:
And don't forget the players who got the title even before the Frog's "warning"

Monsters start showing up on Friday (midnight or noon, don't remember). So I'm guessing Friday. If not, then Saturday (midnight or noon, don't remember), when the event begins.

K. Try dropping 1mil on the max title because you were officially told no (and scoffed at) when you asked there would be no "double party animal" time. It's hard not to be miffed, especially when Anet makes it so damn hard to make any money in the game.

Quite frankly, I don't know why I'm sticking around. Guess I'm waiting to find some other suitable, affordable game to transfer my addiction to.

This could all be remedied if it's not a one-time thing. But if it is, serious slap in the face. If Gaile did not know, she should have not said anything.

And for those of you saying "you were warned" check the Dev post in related threads at the bottom of this thread.

Well, this is what I did, as well as some others I know of:

When the title was introduced and got several items that weekend I was tempted to use them immediately and raise my points. However, Gaile made a comment about not using them all at once, eluding to something 'extra.' There was no mention of double points or anything, just some reason to not pop 'em all.

The end of that event came and went with nothing happening to show that I should pop them off... NOW! There was the comment from the frog and the file found in the .dat that said to me, "just sit on them for a while." Then Gaile said that the buff was something they were thinking of doing, but decided not to. Still, all this info was pretty close together, many people were saying they were going to hold until the bd celebration and I didn't have enough to max the title even if I did shoot them all off. What did I do? I displayed my patience and made nice stacks in storage. I can see how many points I will have without actually using them. If some buff never came along I could burn 'em up when I had enough.

So, that's really the deal here, some people do not have any patience whatsoever and then complain after the fact. None of this is Anet's or Gaile's fault at all, it's the player's desire to max something as quick as possible without consideration for other circumstances. Anyone can go ahead and dispute these comments all they want, but there was probably a little voice deep in your brain as you bought fireworks and shot them all off that was saying, "they probably will end up doing a party animal buff after I use all these."

I am always amazed at the new and creative ways some people on this forum find to cry about any and everything ANET does. It's time for some of the posters to act like adults rather than spoiled little brats who don't get their way.

Bon Voyage, Gaile and The Frog!

Join The Rabbit and The Frog on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for a series of extravaganzas. Every three hours, this duo will host a light-hearted party, complete with dancing, prizes, and maybe even a conga line!

To help you celebrate in style, The Frog will bestow party attendees with a new, extra-special buff that will grant bearers double points towards their Party Animal title track. To get the biggest bang for your buck, be sure to save up any fireworks you acquire and use them at one of the extravaganzas during the weekend.
Does anyone know for sure whether this point bonus will work on all party animal related items (specifically the tonics) or just the fireworks? I was assuming everything (except the box of fireworks since it only works in your GH) but my wife pointed out that the wording specifically picked out fireworks, so now I'm not so sure.

Anyone see anything saying one way or the other on tonics working with the event?

Emphasis added.

Anet likes to surprise us with stuff. It's how they keep the fun in what they are doing.

How often does the Frog say anything as specific as what he wrote about saving our party animal items? How often does Gaile have to carefully word her replies so that she's not misinforming us, but still keeping a secret?

If everyone was saying they didn't expect the weekend you might have a point, but it seems like most are saying they knew something like this was coming. That was certainly my reaction when I read what Gaile posted. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

You were hardly "officially" told no. Gaile only said she doesn't know of any, but there was certainly plenty of hints to say there would be. Do you also complain when you buy a game for $50 and then see it reduced to $20 a few months later?

Come on..

I imagine the buff will end when you leave an outpost, so it wouldn't matter whether it works with tonics or not, since you'd only get to use one.

If the buff only worked on the drops only from the weekend that'd be fair enough.
obviously there was confusion on the matter and letting peopel wait a good month for a use was a bit odd.
still though can't change it a bit saddened but thatws how the game goes.
hopefully i'll get some points up anyway.

You people make me lol. Always finding something to cry about, I swear. If you say you're going to leave then leave or stop with the empty threats. They said you shouldn't use all your firework up when the title came out, you did anyway case closed.

Anyone know what the Frog, Rabbit, et al will be accepting as 'Trophy items'?

I think this is more to show of the disconnect between the CR and Devs. Seeing how Devs like keeping secrets for "surprizes" for the community, most reliable source of info is the dat crawlers. Mb with gaile and andrew gone, people will figure out that what info Anet wants out is either misdirections or old news discovered in the dat.

Edit: found post from Gaile about the Frogs Warning and Dat Crawlers. As you can see she dismissed them both. Also i'd have no problem with them saying that it wasn't plans, but the statement the weekend was thought about and rejected, it sorta hints that it won't happen.

I also thought he meant that there would be a title coming for party items.
Ah well, I used about 400 points worth of items so far, so no biggy...
Titles are SO expensive

As of right now, buying party points will cost you more than 1 million to get the max title even with the double weekend. There's a thread in High End where the party points are going for 365 gold per point (which makes it almost 2 million even with the weekend).

You should be happy that you got your title when you did.
